This week started off really easy... mostly we did lots and lots and LOTS of lounging. We made sure to work on finishing off some of the wine we got from BevMo! and such. As you can see, it was really relaxing.
Work was winding down this week, so we (all the interns) took slightly longer lunches to try to enjoy some of the food in the area (I think I found a place that serves some of the tastiest and more complex-flavored horchata I've ever had!). Even the weather seemed kind of sleepy, and this sort of ocean fog or something rolled in to hover over the high-rises.
We spent some nights saying our goodbyes to people in the area, namely Eric, who we wouldn't see for awhile. Our last night in Santa Monica, we ate at Mike's beloved Urth Cafe. For once, I think he didn't mind because we saw this:
It was parked nearby and of course Mike had to admire it thoroughly. It is a nice looking vehicle, isn't it? Anyway. Speaking of vehicles, the rest of the week did not go so well. This summer, I know several people who've gotten into accidents. Sepe (3 - one fender bender that was her fault, one fender bender that was not her fault, and one in Vegas during which she was not driving). Marissa (1 - she had to get a neck brace for awhile). Jyoti (1 - her side view mirror got knocked off her BMW). Hasti's mom (1 - Hasti had to skip work early once to pick her up). And I thought that would be it for the moment...but no. Despite exercising due caution, a lady who was definitely speeding and was not paying attention in completely backed-up traffic ran into us. Nightmare. I can't even drive my car home to Northern California afterward (which was the plan on Saturday/tomorrow morning). I had to call the insurance, make all these other phone calls, take picture, submit information, tow the car, buy plane tickets to SJC, etc. It was just the worst luck ever. Mike was driving my car because I was feeling kind of out of sorts that day, and a split second before, he thought something was wrong, so he slowed and stopped, but the lady just plowed through us. Had he not stopped, the glass might have shattered through my window and all over my face because she definitely would have hit my front passenger side door. In fact, it definitely could have been worse than a little shattered glass. Good reflexes, Mike; it's too bad that we just had some dumb bad luck. And we were literally one block from safely getting home!
That really sucks! I hate LA as well. Good riddence. ;)
