DAY 2 - The Beautiful San Francisco (I'm starting with Day 2 because Day 1 consisted of eating at Steamer's Grillhouse in Los Gatos for dinner, where my mom had dinner with Mike's parents for the first time... crazy, isn't it, to think that our parents met? I feel like usually I'd be freaked out, but both sides are good people, so I didn't really have worries about it).
The Embarcadero. We figured this was a good starting place, considering Mike's parents have never been to the Ferry Building, even though they've been to Pier 9 and all that jazz. There was the Saturday Farmer's Market going on, so we got to snack, shop, and admire our way through the crowds of interesting smells, textures, flavors, and sights. I love this city.
One thing in particular that I had to splurge on? A six pack of beers that were 10% off! And what's more, I got to mix and match! So Mike and I chose a six pack of champions - two bottles of Japanese green tea IPA (a collab between Stone, Ishi, and another brewing company I've never heard of); a can of poppy-based brew from Uncommon Brewers; a bottle of the Festina Peche (peach) beer from Dogfish Head; a Cherry Chocolate Stout from Stone (another collab between Stone, Troegs, and another company... I always seem to forget the third one); and finally a bottle of a Belgian barley (sweet gale, aka bog myrtle) ale from Gageleer. Excited! We ate lunch at Taylor's, as Mike was in the mood for some delicious grill food. I got the chilicheese hot dog... yum! We also enjoyed some delicious hand-made sorbet... check out the picture I took of all the flavors. It was crazy how some of these unique combinations turned out so well (we went on a tasting frenzy).
Along the Pier. We walked and enjoyed the sun all the way back to the parking lot. This, by itself, almost felt like a complete and successful day, but there was more to do and more to see! We passed nearby Coit Tower on our way by Grace Cathedral.
Consevatory of Flowers. Although we had planned on going to Angel Island, Mike and I had reservations about the scheduling and whether we'd get a good amount of time on the island and whether we'd be too rushed. Opting to enjoy a more leisurely pace, we went to Golden Gate Park to walk around and enjoy the beautiful blooms at the Conservatory instead. There was this awesome Wicked Plants exhibit that I'd heard about, forgot about, and was pleased about when I saw it was still going on!
Tataki. Where else did you expect Mike and I to want to go for dinner? Sushi, sustainability, and sure quality made it the right choice. Mike's mom never likes raw fish, but she felt adventurous and trusted the freshness of the place. Success.
The end.
